Introduction
Assignment Literature Assistant: **it is not a search tool that hands you a pile of links.** Give it your assignment brief (plus your slides, handouts, course page or a screenshot of the brief) and it does three things in one pass: ① **finds real sources against what your brief actually asks for**; ② **summarises only the parts that relate to your assignment** — not a generic abstract of each paper, and every line points back to a section and a sentence in the source; ③ **writes the in-text citations and a formatted reference list in the exact style your assignment demands**. You want something you can hand in, not a pile of links. So the output is finished work: which papers to use, which section and sentence in each one contains the point you need, **what the parts relevant to your brief say**, what the citation looks like, how the reference list is laid out. **Every conclusion links back to the source it came from.** Every result comes with a link you can click and check yourself, plus a DOI. **And it checks one thing about every single one: has this paper been retracted by its publisher?** Retraction is not deletion — the page, the PDF and the link usually all stay up and the download still works, so **being findable is not the same as being usable**. Anything found to be retracted is flagged separately, with the retraction notice link and a plain "not recommended for direct citation". It locates the thing your brief actually demands inside the paper: if your assignment requires Gibbs' reflective cycle, a named instrument, or a specific variable, it goes into the full text and tells you which section it appears in, quotes the sentence, and gives you the link to verify it. If the full text cannot be retrieved, it says so **in plain words and tells you which kind of problem it is** — "this one needs payment, I cannot reach the full text", "it is listed as open access but the download is blocked on my side". No hedging, no sugar-coating. **What it can summarise, it hands over first**: sources that are relevant and reachable still get located, summarised, cited and listed. The ones it could not open are listed afterwards, with how far they got through the relevance check, a link you can open, and your options — **whether to pay is your call**, it will not make it for you and will not show you a way around the paywall. **It never asks for your username or password**, and it will not ask you to log into an account to fetch a paper for it. Only then does it write the citation: in-text citations and a formatted reference list in the **citation style** your assignment demands (APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago, IEEE, Vancouver, Harvard or GB/T 7714). Every field comes from real retrieved metadata — if there is no DOI, there is no DOI in your list, and nothing is filled in to make it look complete. **Every style name comes with a label saying it is a citation style, plus one line on what it is and which subjects use it** — it never throws a bare "MLA 9" at you and leaves you to guess. Say Harvard and it warns you: that style has no official standard version, so it will ask for your school's guide or a sample. It can read these: a screenshot of the brief, essays and handout files, slide decks, PDFs (it downloads them and reads the text layer), scanned image-only PDFs (it pulls the page image out and reads that — measured to work), subtitle or transcript files (it cannot read audio or video itself — you need subtitles or a transcript), and a public web page you point it at, which it asks about first. Digits and proper nouns read from an image are flagged "read from the image, please check the original" — and if an image is too blurry it says so instead of guessing. Just talk to it normally, no need to say "literature": "I have to write a literature review on X, find me some solid sources" "Find me papers on X, summarise the parts relevant to my question, and write the citations and reference list in APA 7" "I don't know where to start looking" "I want to quote this sentence, how do I cite it" "My reference list is in the wrong format" "Format my references in APA 7" "Is this journal predatory?" "Is this paper worth citing?" "This one is paywalled, is there a free version?" "Summarise this lecture transcript". It will not write your paragraphs for you, it will not lower your similarity score or AI-detection score, it will not log in to anything on your behalf, and it will never give you a paraphrase without a source.
